Wile field note · 7 minute read

Why an AI workout needs a purpose-built place to train.

A conversational plan can be excellent. But once the workout starts, the interface needs to stop behaving like a conversation.

Chat is good at intent. It is not workout mode.

In conversation, you can explain your goal, equipment, available time, injuries, preferences, and energy. An AI can use those details to create a relevant plan. During the workout, however, scrolling through messages to find the next set creates friction at exactly the wrong moment.

Training needs a different information hierarchy.

The current exercise should be obvious. Work and rest time should stay visible. Logging should take seconds. The full plan matters, but it should not compete with the set happening now.

  • Current movement and target
  • Work and rest timing
  • Actual reps and load
  • Clear session progress

The finished workout is better context than the original plan.

Recommendations improve when they can reference completed reps, actual load, effort, substitutions, and skipped work. That record should remain factual. Your AI can interpret it and create the next plan without rewriting what happened.

The Wile principle

Let conversation shape the workout. Let a workout interface carry it out.
